I write this letter to any organization currently interviewing Mark Washo and the team at Playbook Management International, to create a partnership with PMI to drive ticket sales revenue. I had the opportunity to act as Mark’s direct supervisor as Managing Director of the Chicago Fire representing ownership, when Mark was the Executive Vice President of the team with primary responsibilities of managing ticket sales & marketing for the team.

Under Mark’s ticket sales leadership, the Fire delivered the highest ticket sales revenue in team history during the team’s second season at TOYOTA PARK. Growing ticket sales revenue in a new sports facility in the second season is a challenging endeavor, especially during ownership transition. Mark was able to keep the sales team focused, motivated and inspired in order to execute the sales plan to deliver maximum sales results. Mark understands the complex nature of proactive ticket sales, and would be a great asset to any organization looking to maximize ticket sales. The Fire ticket sales effort struggled following Mark’s departure and we are just getting back to the same revenue levels attained during his tenure. Therefore, my recommendation is based on his past performance and track record. I have continue to stay in touch with him following his departure from the Fire and believe that his skills have continued to improve given the kind of challenges that he has undertaken.

When I was hired a few short months ago as the President of the NASL's Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, my main focus initially was to increase awareness of the club and to build the fan and sponsorship bases with a limited budget and minimal staff. Like many teams, we found over time that our database of qualified sales leads and previous customers had grown beyond the ability of our in-house sales staff to effectively contact them all in support of milestone events, such as opening night. . . The results have been very encouraging and we look forward to continuing with [PMI] to support other major events and general ticket sales efforts this season.

In particular, I was thrilled with the success your trained salespeople exhibited in converting fans from our single-game ticket lists from previous seasons into full season ticket holders. We've even seen some conversions from the single game lists directly into season packages for our highest priced club seating areas. These are stones that probably would have gone unturned had we continued to rely solely on in-house staff.

During my time as the Owner and Chairwoman of the Washington Freedom, Mark Washo served as the Freedom’s Team President and General Manager. Mark oversaw all of the teams business and operations, and was also appointed Primary Board of Governor to the WPS league office.

My husband, founder and Chairman of Discovery Channel, and I interviewed three candidates for the General Manager position including the person who had previously held the position when we operated the team from 2001 to 2003. We decided to hire Mark based on his experience and background in Major League Soccer and other professional sports. He also had in-depth knowledge of ticket sales, sports management and innovative ways to generate revenue. Mark was able to quickly turn the Freedom around from being near the bottom of WPS in tickets sales, sponsorship, and revenue to one of the top teams in the league in all categories.

I would say that we had the best Team President and GM in the WPS and the other teams did refer to his book, “Break into Sports through Ticket Sales” when teaching their ticket sales staffs. Mark was able to pare down our staff and maintain a high level of productivity. Our Freedom staff was a highly effective small group of people who achieved a high level of success under Mark’s leadership.

Now as Managing Partner of Playbook Management International, other sports properties have the ability to utilize Mark vast experiences, expertise and resources within PMI to help them run a more effective business operation.
